Toaster v2.0
After a year and a half of the original Toaster, a new version finally arrives. Blame Calico Ingmann for getting me to finally muster up the script fu to do the most requested upgrade.

What the hell is a Toaster and what does it do?
The Toaster allows you to mass produce an object over and over again where each version of the item is the same except for a different texture set. As a creator, you first place your texture sets into the Toaster. Then, you create a prototype of the object you want to “Toast” or replicate, placing the associated scripts in the object. Then, when you Toast, a copy of the object is produced for every texture set.
As one might imagine, in Second Life, creating hair is the perfect application for the Toaster. You create a hair style, then need to texture it with a minimum of a single texture, but often two or more, such as with alpha textures or multiple solids. This can often amount to hours of texturing by hand for a single style, particularly when multiple textures are involved. For the Toaster, however, it takes only a minute to generate hundreds of copies. Not only that, but if textures are ever changed are updated, it’s simple to Toast the same prototype with the new textures. In the long run, the time saved is immense.
Features of v2.0
- Replicates prototype objects
- Copy/Mod/No Transfer
- Use up to approximately 80-100 textures per copy of the Toaster
- v2.0 can use up to 10 textures per object, up from 2 from the original
- Renames objects, appending the texture name after the object name
- Cleans up after itself, deleting all scripts upon object creation
- Long history, tested, and widespread in use by most of the major hair creators in SL in particular
- Looks like a toaster! (new for v2.0!)
Toast!
So with the new version of the toaster and the ability to use up to 10 textures per set, it seems like the uses for it might expand more into other high prim creations such as jewelry, prim clothing, and anything that has the same design but different textures.
How to get one?
I’ve always sold the Toaster through word of mouth from my inventory and it has sold and spread all over the place, way beyond what I had thought. The feeling I’ve had has always been that this isn’t really the sort of thing I want to put in a store and have to answer random questions about. Either you are serious about making things like hair and the benefits of using the Toaster are obvious, or you’re not, and they aren’t. However, I’m set to leave for Greece in a matter of days, so I’m considering putting out a poster at Luminosity for it while I’m gone.
If you own the original Toaster though, the cost will just be the difference if you want to upgrade. Instant Message me soon or it’ll have to wait until June before I’ll be able to get those to you.
Testimonials?
Anyone want to share how much it’s helped, or attest to the Toaster’s usefulness? I know I’ve been dry humped, have a stable of first-borns which were sacrificed, and undying thanks from tons of people. So, any props for the Toaster? Thanks in advance!
Also, if there are any questions about the operation, this would be a good time to ask =)
Free Hair Clause
Wow, almost forgot the most important part (at least to me)! I’ve always added one special “cost” to the Toaster. If you’re happy with it, I ask that I can get free hair! I have to stay in style, so bury me in hair ;)
The original toaster was a trully amazing gift. I remember when I came to you pulling my hair out saying helpppp me with this !! LOL.. you took on the task and boy did you ever.. the toaster has revolutionized the hair industry in so many ways, it leaves designers with more time to create by tremendously cutting down on production time. I couldnt imagine going back to texturing by hand. I have been using your upgrade on my last few hairs and I never dreamed of there being any improvement to the toaster and you found away. Being able to use more than 2 textures for special hairs cuts down even further on production time instead of having to go back and add other textures to the wigs. You rock.

I just have to say that I would’ve stopped making hair long ago if the toaster hadn’t been brought to my attention. I would be bald in rl by now if I had had to keep texturing hair by hand.
Ty berry much Sol, the toaster rox my virtual, proverbial sox!
Sinnocent Mirabeau | May 7, 10:41 | #Can you believe I only heard about this amazing thing yesterday? I had no idea such a thing existed.
This is without question, the best ever creation in all of SL. I’m awestruck at what it can do. The hours and hours and HOURS I’ve spent coloring hair…ugh. I had no idea. I seriously wish someone had told me about this ages ago.
Needless to say, I am now in love with the toaster. Sol is a Goddess. I will have the toaster’s babies. I will even have Sol’s babies. I have finally found the love of a lifetime!
Tigerlily Koi | May 7, 12:49 | #Ty SOOO much, Sol! I wish I knew about this a long long time ago. I even stopped making hair for a while cuz it was all too much for me. But now I can pop them out like I never thought possible. :P I’m back in business and loving it.
This upgrade is also perfect. Now it will be so much easier to have flexis and alphas. :)
I definitely recommend it to anyone going into the hair biz. A++++!
I heart what Toaster can do for hair making fashionistas…helping them make lots of hair easier!
And we all love lots of hair.
Kudos to Sol.
CronoCloud Creeggan | May 7, 21:16 | #OMG Sol u are a life SAVER! I was very lucky to find out about the toaster early in my hair career (thanks to miss Six!) If i didn’t have this goldy toaster i would have stopped making hair. I would of NEVER played with alphas or make more than 10 colors LOL. I’m so excited to get more creative with the new version, and the cuteness of the toaster ads so much more! I love showin people how it works and they sit there with their eyes wide and jaws dropped 8)
Mikayla Kohl | May 7, 22:36 | #Yay! Thanks Sol for thinking I had the original when I did not… I was mystified how so many of my colleagues have been able to pump out so many colors and styles when it takes me as much as an hour to retexture one hand drawn curl wig! Ack. Can’t wait to convert over to this. You are my hero.
Mystikal Faddoul | May 22, 10:10 | #Whaaaat? Whahaaaat? Why havent I heard about this?! Oh my god, that is a stroke of pure genious! Must… get… toaster.
